Changing Lives

Ciera_Wilson Q: Who has changed your life?
A: My mother because even though my father has been incarcerated my whole life she always promised me that I will have a better life and she has never let me down. She said for me to go to college and pushed me to do better, always.

Q: At RMU?
A: Miss Cassandra Oden, director of RMU’s Center for Student Success, is always willing to go the extra mile to help you out, or to somehow assist you with something. She was booked all day and still found time to fit me into her schedule and help me plan my classes. Or this one day I wanted to leave early for Christmas break and she arranged an early ride home for me. Since she wasn’t available to take me home herself, she asked someone else for the favor. She will help you succeed.

Q: Have you changed someone’s life?
A: My little brother, he’s in 9th grade right now, he told my mom that, “Ciera went to college so I want to go now.” I thought that was very inspirational because most little boys talk about how they don’t like school, but I thought it was so cute that he said he wanted to go to college because I went to college. People always say that you set an example for your younger siblings and you don’t think that you are, till something like that comes out of their mouth and you think, “I guess I really am an example for youth, even though I didn’t realize it.”

Q: Study Abroad or International Activities:
A: I will be traveling to Australia, February of 2011

Q: Clubs or Sports:
A: Robert Morris University’s Black Student Union (Treasurer), Robert Morris University’s Pittsburgh Promise Cohort (VP of Leadership Development)

Q: How did you find out about/choose RMU?
A: It was the best business school in the area that let me have my own independence but not have my mother feel that I was out of her reach.

Q: What do you like best about the program?
A: RMU’s business management program gives one the opportunity to do just about anything.

Q: How helpful are the faculty members?
A: Extremely! Without the faculty members I would be completely lost! (Paul Spradly, Cassandra L. Oden, David Budziszewski, and John Michalenko)

Q: What would you like to do with your career?
A: Own my own business; start small in Pittsburgh but eventually go everywhere!

Q: Why would you recommend RMU to other students?
A: This school has not only a “homey” type of feel but also a great reputation.

Q: What do you think is RMU’s best aspect?
A: RMU gives every student the chance to stand out from the rest.

Q: If you could describe RMU in one word, what would it be?
A: Opportunity
