As new technological innovations continue to proliferate in our society, so do the opportunities for technology exploitation. Once a mere nuisance, hackers now threaten private citizens, businesses, and government agencies.
Government and law enforcement agencies need skilled professionals who can join the fight against cyber crime, cyber terrorism, identity theft, and the exploitation of minors. Companies and other private sector organizations need skilled professionals with both business acumen and technology skills for recognizing and mitigating vulnerabilities.
The Cyber Forensics and Information Security program combines the disciplines of technology, business, organizational behavior, and law. Students learn techniques used to detect, respond to, and prevent network intrusions. They also master broader concepts such as the responsible use of resources, the appropriate management of risks, and the alignment of information technology with the organization.

Students develop professional experience through internships and cooperative education in Fortune 500 companies, nonprofit and health care organizations, and with small businesses. The supervised work experience provides the student with hands-on experience in hardware and software technology, applications, and organizational operations.
The Computer and Information Systems Department also offers a five-year, integrated B.S. and M.S. degree for all six of its master's degree programs. For most students, the program requires 150 credits.

As guides and mentors, they motivate students to acquire the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their field of study. Faculty members encourage students to engage in scholarly pursuits, including participation in academic conferences and professional organizations. Our faculty members hail from seven countries on four continents, helping to broaden students’ global understanding. Many lead study abroad trips and international student exchanges in Europe, South America, and Asia. Finally, SCIS faculty members’ professional experience and community involvement help students connect what they’re learning in the classroom to the workplace.
