Changing Lives

RYAN_COLLINSI have a gift of making others laugh. It’s this gift that makes a difference in the lives of others. In a way, my humor touches people. I’m able to make bad days a little better.

If you couldn’t already tell, I’m a theater major. I intern during the summer with the Pittsburgh Musical Theater during the theater summer camp. For four weeks, we teach children dancing, acting, and group singing in the morning. In the afternoon, they rehearse for a play. At the end of the session, each age group puts on a full production.

I adore watching the children I taught all summer perform on stage at the end of the camp. They’re so proud. Knowing I helped bring them to that point – it’s really rewarding. It puts a smile on my face. I love being able to share my passion for the stage with the kids. More than anything, it’s important to grow the field, which is something I love being a part of. Arts are so important at any stage in life.

My dream career is to perform on Broadway. That’s been my goal for longer than I can remember. This past spring I was in my first professional theater production – a production of Annie. My main goal is to work consistently in theater, TV, and film. As long as I’m doing something creative, I’ll be happy.

My focus on my future goals has changed a lot since Robert Morris. When I first came here, I knew I wanted to be in something creative – acting, theater. Coming to Robert Morris, I found a new passion and more focus. Now, I’m majoring in TV/video, film, and theater. I’ll be more valuable to potential employers and do all the things I love.

Before, it was just fun. Now, I’m focused, determined, and have more direction. I know how to accomplish what I want to accomplish.
