Berardo Artieri
Home town: Teramo, Italy
Favorite thing about Pittsburgh: “When you emerge from the Fort Pitt Tunnel and the downtown arises to your eyes... I've no words to describe it!"
Berardo and Luca are students at the University of L’Aquila, a school known for its excellent engineering and science faculty. Last year, a massive earthquake destroyed the town and killed more than 300 people, including 55 of their fellow students.
The two men won scholarships for L'Aquila students offered by the American Italian Cultural Institute (AMICI) of Pittsburgh and Robert Morris University. Berardo is studying for a master’s degree in engineering management at RMU, while Luca is studying software engineering.
Luca likes playing guitar and riding his motorcycle, while Berardo enjoys soccer and snowboarding. Both say they’ve been excited to meet such a big, friendly, and tight-knit Italian community in Pittsburgh.
