SEARCHING THE LIBRARY CATALOG (ROBCAT)
If you are looking for a particular book, you can search ROBCAT
, the library catalog, by author or title to see if we own the book.
If you are looking for material on a topic, search ROBCAT
Searches in ROBCAT work best when they are simple yet specific. Choose one keyword to describe your topic and enter it into the keyword search box. If this method yields too many search results or the results are too general, refine your search by identifying a subtopic. Select the advance search screen, type your main topic into the first search box and enter a second search term into the second keyword search box.UNDERSTANDING ROBCAT SEARCH RESULTS
Once you have searched ROBCAT and found the material you need, make sure to check 1) the status of the item and 2) the location of the item.
Status. If the item is available, the status notation should state, "Not charged." If the status does not say “Charged” or “Not Charged,” ask a reference librarian for further assistance.
Location. Write down the location of the item, (call number and collection area), i.e.: Moon Campus - General Collection, 822.33 D 33.
Most books may be checked out of the Library, with the exception of those in the Reference Collection.
LOCATING BOOKS IN THE RMU MOON CAMPUS LIBRARY
The RMU Moon Campus Library General Collection is located on the second floor of the Library -- the third floor of Patrick Henry. Walk through the aisles of books. The call number ranges are displayed on the sides of the book shelves.
Both RMU Libraries are organized by the Dewey Decimal Call Number system and are arranged similarly.
If you have any other questions about finding books -- searching ROBCAT, determining the status of an item, figuring out whether or not an item can be checked out, what to do if the book you need it not available -- ask at the Reference Desk.
