Supporting Athletics at RMU

When the RMU men’s and women’s basketball teams hosted the NEC tournament in the Sewall Center in 2014, over 200 members of The 1921 Club and their guests were there to cheer on the Colonials. And the success of all RMU's 16 NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic teams is due in no small part to the support of those donors and others like them. That's why we want you to join The 1921 Club today.

2014 Mylan Trivia Bowl

RMU's winning ways aren't confined to the basketball court. In 2014 the men's ice hockey team were the Atlantic Hockey Association Tournament Champions and went on to play No. 1 ranked Minnesota Gophers in the NCAA tournament. The women's ice hockey team enjoyed their most successful regular season in program history and advanced to the College Hockey Association tournament. This fall, we look forward to the first season of new RMU head football coach (and Super Bowl winning former Steeler) John Banaszak, who promises to carry on in the winning tradition of founding head coach Joe Walton, who in 20 years led the Colonials to six Northeast Conference regular season titles and two ECAC Bowl victories.

Individually, 2013 graduate and offensive lineman, AJ Dalton signed a contract with the Detroit Lions while Chris Carper of men’s track and field was the 2014 NCAA East Prelims Individual Champion for javelin, becoming the first student-athlete in our program history to find a place on the NCAA All-American First Team. Four student athletes were named NEC Player of the Year in the 2013-2014 academic year, including Neco Brett (men’s soccer), Karvel Anderson (men’s basketball), Artemis Spanou (women’s basketball), and Halley Morrell (women’s golf).

At Robert Morris, our athletes win in the classroom as well. For the second time in three years RMU received the 2014 NEC Institutional Advancement Award. A total of six student-athletes were named to respective Capital One District II Academic All-America teams while men’s tennis star Travis Denney was named 2014 NEC Male Scholar-Athlete of the year.

None of this happens by accident. That’s where The 1921 Club comes in. The 1921 Club is RMU's official athletics booster club, dedicated to supporting our athletes both in the classroom and as they represent the university through athletic competition.
