RMU has been named to another top ranked list, and this time, it is being recognized as one of the best schools in the country (number 26 is the North U.S. region) for veterans who would like to gain a college education.

U.S. News & World Report’s first Best Colleges for Veterans ranking list was recently released, and the magazine publicly recognized RMU’s efforts for Pittsburgh-area veterans.

To be eligible for this list, it was required that a college is certified for the Post 9/11 Veterans Education Benefits, be a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, and be a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium. Many of the schools ranked on this list provide federal benefits, including application and tuition assistance, to veterans and those who are currently serving.

RMU believes that a veteran’s military service is a benefit, and has developed resources so that our servicemen and women have financial and educational support while in college. RMU offers:

  • Admissions and Application Assistance. Using your benefits from the Post 9/11 Veterans Education Benefits and going through the VA System to apply for college can be time consuming. RMU has admissions counselors who have experience navigating these options. You can call them at any time for help.
  • Financial Packages. Being a Yellow Ribbon Program member means that we can help veterans pay for the cost of their college education. Veterans who get less than 100 percent benefits from the Post 9/11 Veterans Education Benefits can receive a Military Service Award that will compensate for the difference between tuition benefits for a state-run college and RMU’s tuition.
  • A VETS Center. This Center is for all of our active and veteran military students, and it’s open 24 hours a day. The VETS Center is run by a retired U.S. Air National Guard Brig. Gen. who is also an emeritus RMU Computer Information Systems professor.
  • Traditional and online coursework. If you’re an active military member, you’ll benefit from the online coursework, programs, and degrees that RMU provides. If you would like to take classes on campus, RMU’s locations include the Moon Township location, downtown Pittsburgh, Southpointe, and Cranberry. Classes are also offered at the 171st Air Refueling Wing in Moon Township for your convenience.

U.S. News and World Report has also ranked RMU as one of the best regional (North) universities, one of the best undergraduate business and engineering programs, and is well-ranked for online programs including graduate business, education, and computer information technology.
