Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin will be a keynote speaker at Robert Morris University’s 92nd
Commencement, May 5-6, in the Sewall Center Arena at RMU’s Moon Township campus.
Tomlin will give the address at the graduate commencement ceremony, which takes place at 4 p.m., Friday, May 5. The university will award an honorary doctorate of humane letters to Tomlin at the ceremony, and will also confer that honor upon Pat Rooney, Trustee emerita of the university, and her husband, Steelers Chairman Dan Rooney, for their founding and continued support of the Rooney International Visiting Scholars Program at RMU. Approximately 200 students will receive master’s and doctoral degrees at the graduate commencement ceremony.
J. Keith Motley, chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Boston, will deliver the commencement address at the undergraduate ceremony, which will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 6. Motley, a graduate of Peabody High School in Pittsburgh's East Liberty neighborhood, has four decades of experience in higher education administration at the University of Massachusetts Boston and Northeastern University. He will also receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters. Approximately 700 students will be awarded their bachelor’s degrees at this ceremony.
This will be the final Commencement in the Sewall Center, which is slated for demolition and will be replaced by the UPMC Events Center, opening in 2019.
