Sport Management Career Summit

College students across the region will have the opportunity to network with top sports executives and industry professionals on Oct. 13 as Robert Morris University hosts its 14th annual Sport Management Student Career Summit.

More than 70 management professionals in from several U.S. professional leagues will attend the all-day conference at the Airport Sheraton Hotel in Moon Township. Speakers include RMU alumni John Fisher, senior vice president of ticket sales and marketing for the Arizona Diamondbacks; Mela Moatz, membership development and sales operations manager for the Cleveland Cavaliers; and Steve Swetoha, president of the Greensboro Swarm.

The itinerary features panel discussions on issues facing the sports industry and roundtables where students can learn valuable skills for launching their careers. The conference will conclude with an internship and job fair for students.

The university also will induct a new class into its Sport Management Hall of Fame. The following RMU sport management graduates are this year's inductees:

  • Bradley Downs '99, vice president of marketing for the Baltimore Ravens. He has worked for the Ravens since 2002 in various sales and marketing roles.
  • Jeffrey Garner '99, assistant athletic director for ticketing sales and service at Pennsylvania State University. Before starting at Penn State in 2013, Garner worked for the New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club and Greenberg Sports Group.
  • Christopher King '94, director of athletics at the University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley. Previously, he worked at the University of Alabama, the University of Central Florida, and Liberty University.
