From Steel Valley to Silicon Valley: football lessons

President Howard visited Steel Valley High School in Homestead, Pa, the hometown of late football coach and Silicon Valley businessman William V. Campbell. After speaking to the Steel Valley varsity football team, who won the state championship this year and garners 30 students on the academic honor roll, retried Pittsburgh Steeler and entrepreneur Charlie Batch addressed the students.

During his senior year at the Air Force Academy, Howard became the first person to receive the Campbell Award, given each year to a senior college football player who excels in the classroom. The National Football, which administers the Campbell Trophy, decided to make rings for each recipient, and Howard received his at the Steel Valley High School assembly.
