NEWS

-- Valerie Plame Wilson and Joe Wilson will speak at RMU during a luncheon on Monday, Nov. 21, before the couple's talk that evening at Heinz Hall as part of the Pittsburgh Speakers Series presented by Robert Morris University. She was a covert CIA operative and he was the American Ambassador to Africa and Iraq. Former ambassador Joe Wilson wrote the 2003 New York Times op-ed piece suggesting the Iraqi nuclear threat had been exaggerated, that allegedly resulted in the exposure of Valerie Plame Wilson's identity as a CIA agent working in counter-proliferation. The lunch is free and takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Food Court of Nicholson Center. For more information and to register, go to rmu.edu/wilsonlunch.

PERSONAL MENTION

-- Science faculty Tony Kerzmann, Gavin Buxton and Maria Kalevitch, the dean of the School of Engineering, Mathematics and Science, recently wrote an article on the development of the new alternative energy and sustainability minor, which is now open to all RMU students. This article, published in the proceedings of the 2011 ASEE Middle Atlantic Section Fall Conference, detailed how this interdisciplinary minor was developed and the way in which the courses within the minor have been designed to address both the growing societal needs for education in environmental issues and the employment opportunities within the Pittsburgh region's energy sector. Kerzmann also gave a presentation about the new minor at an American Society for Engineering Education conference last month.
