-- Faculty and staff participating in this year's commencement ceremonies are asked to check the spelling of your name and any other relevant information in drafts of this year's programs, online at www.rmu.edu/commencement. Look for the links on the left side of the page that say "Check Your Name in the Commencement Program." You will be required to sign in using your Sentry username and password. The drafts will be available online through the end of business on Monday, April 16.

-- The Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity is hosting a remembrance program for Marco Giovengo at 7:30 p.m. this Friday, April 13 in the Rogal Chapel. All members of the RMU community are invited to this celebration of Marco's life and time at RMU. A bonfire will follow at the 8 p.m. at the Nicholson Center Fire Pit.

-- RMU will host the fourth annual International Conference on Sustainable Enterprises of the Future on Wednesday, April 18, in the Sewall Center. The conference features presentations of research and discussions on issues of sustainability related to management, economics, marketing, accounting, finance, communication, and industrial engineering. The keynote address, “Fossil Energy and the Future” will be given at 1 p.m. in the International Suite by Bryan Morreale, lead of the materials science and engineering focus area with the Office of Research and Development of the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory. Morreale also will participate in the Speaking of Business panel discussion at 4 p.m. titled “Utilization of Sustainability” moderated by Marcel Minutolo, assistant professor of management at RMU, also in the International Suite. Other participants will include Frank Gunderson, senior director of asset management at Giant Eagle.

-- Sylvia Pamboukian, associate professor of English, has written Doctoring the Novel: Medicine and Quackery from Shelley to Doyle, about the portrayal of medicine in Victorian literature. She will hold a book signing at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the Penguin Bookshop, 420 Beaver St. in Sewickley. Light refreshments will be served.

-- The Department of Media Arts invites you to the Spring 2012 Documentary Showcase from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, April 20, at the Snee-Reinhardt Charitable Foundation House for the Media Arts. Visiting documentary filmmaker Dustin Zemel presents his explorations with generative documentary and examples of a new piece created in collaboration with RMU students. The event also will feature selections of student documentary work from the Documentary Production I course.

--  Six officers and two other members of the RMU student chapter of the American Marketing Association attended the 2012 AMA Collegiate Conference in New Orleans last month. The RMU chapter was recognized as one of the Top 25 Schools with Distinction in Outstanding Chapter Planning, Outstanding Fundraising, and Outstanding Community Service. Listed here are the 2011-2012 officers as well as the conference attendees.

PERSONAL MENTION

-- Jacqueline Klentzin and Diane Todd Bucci have published an article in the March edition of Journal of Academic Librarianship titled "Part-time Faculty and the Academic Library: A Case Study."  Klentzin is a professor of learning resources and information literacy and outreach librarian. Todd Bucci is a professor of English.

-- Arif Sirinterlikci and Michael Shaffer wrote an article for the May issue of Manufacturing Engineering magazine titled "Material Meld: Manufacturing for Orthotics" about materials used to support, immobilize, or treat muscles, joints, or skeletal parts. Sirinterlicki is a professor of engineering and Shaffer is a junior majoring in both biomedical and mechanical engineering.

*WELLNESS TIP* Take simple steps to keep your lunches healthy. Try one of these tips: Switch to whole-grain bread on your sandwiches. Skip cream-based soups. Add a piece of fruit. Switch to a lower fat cheese or yogurt. Use oil and vinegar or lower fat dressings on salads.
