-- The women's basketball team will hold a "Hoops for Hope " fundraiser this Saturday, Feb. 23, during its 4 p.m. game against Farleigh Dickinson at the Sewall Center Arena. The effort to fight cancer was conceived by freshman point guard Randi Jackson who lost her mother to breast cancer last year. The team will raffle a Troy Polamalu jersey and give fans the opportunity to donate a dollar for each three-point shot made during both the women's and men's games Saturday. Proceeds will benefit the Glimmer of Hope Foundation.

-- The Student Veterans of America Club held a benefit dance on Feb. 9 for Payton Brown, 12, a student at Cornell Middle School who was badly burned in November. The dance, held at the Coraopolis VFW, raised $255, and the students also donated Marine gear and RMU souvenirs to Payton, whose dream is to be a Marine.

-- The first installment of this semester's Diversity Speaker Series will take place at noon Wednesday, Feb. 27 in Rogal Chapel, featuring WPXI-TV reporter Brandon Hudson. The Diversity Speaker Series is designed to stimulate conversation and learning among students, faculty, and staff regarding diversity in the world. As this topic is often a personal subject, these one-hour conversations provide participants with an opportunity to listen to similar viewpoints, uncover new perspectives, reassess personal opinions, and develop new discussion on diversity.
