The RMU Hall of Fame was established in 1991 to honor those who have made an outstanding contribution to RMU athletics. Nominations are solicited and individuals selected by the Hall of Fame Committee. Players, coaches and administrators are eligible for selection five years after they have concluded their career at Robert Morris. The 15th class of inductees to the Robert Morris University Athletic Hall of Fame is comprised of five former student-athletes and one administrator, each of whom left distinguished marks on their respective careers. They are the late Dr. Susan Hofacre (athletic director, 2000-05), Elise James (women's basketball, 1996-2000), Gene Nabors (men's basketball, 1998-2000), Jim Baughman (men's track and field, 1996-2000), Mark Wallace (men's tennis, 1992-95) and John Kuziel (men's basketball, 1964-66).
Hoface, born in Aberdeen, S.D., and raised in Walnut Creek, Calif., served as RMU's athletic director from 2000 to early 2005 until her untimely passing due to cancer at only the age of 54. During her tenure as athletic director, she guided the department during its greatest expansion in terms of facilities and programs as a Division I institution. Hofacre oversaw the addition of six new programs, including women's golf, field hockey, men's and women's lacrosse and men's and women's ice hockey. She also oversaw the development of the new track and field at the RMU Island Sports Center and the construction of Joe Walton Stadium. Before her role as athletic director, Hofacre served as department head and professor of sport management at Robert Morris from 1989 to 2000. She also served as the athletic department's senior woman administrator from 1989 until being appointed athletic director in 2000. James, a native of Teaneck, N.J., and a graduate of Teaneck High School, is arguably the best player ever to wear a women's basketball uniform at Robert Morris. A four-year letterwinner, James was named to the NEC All-Newcomer Team in 1997, and was an All-NEC First Team selection in both 1999 and 2000 and an All-NEC Second Team selection in 1998. In the career records, James is the all-time leader in both points (1,563) and rebounds (1,120) and is the only basketball player in school history to score over 1,000 points and grab over 1,000 rebounds. James also owns RMU career records for field goals (620) and field goals attempted (1,370) while ranking second in career blocks (114) and fourth in career free throws (323). Her 25 rebounds against Albany Dec. 29, 1999, stands as the Robert Morris single-game record. Named to the All-Northeast Conference First Team in both 1999 and 2000, Nabors scored 1,029 in two seasons at Robert Morris after transferring from Louisiana State University (LSU). During the 1999-2000 campaign, Nabors paced RMU with a 19.1 points per game average in leading the Colonials to the 2000 NEC Championship game. In the NEC Tournament, Nabors set a then school record with 38 points in a 72-52 victory over St. Francis (Pa.) in the tournament quarterfinals. On his career, Nabors ranks sixth in points (1,328) and assists (385), third in steals (244) and fifth in three-point field goals (161). Nabors is a native of Beckley, W.Va., and a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. Baughman, a hurdling specialist for the Colonial indoor and outdoor track and field teams from 1996 to 2000, was a part of three NEC Championship clubs (1999 indoor, 2000 indoor and 2000 outdoor). A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., and a graduate of Baldwin High School, Baughman owns each of the top five times in school history in the 55-meter high hurdles for indoor track, with a top time of 7.60 seconds. Baughman also owns each of the top four times in the 60-meter high hurdles for indoor track, including a top time of 8.15 seconds. Also for indoor track and field, Baughman is the school record holder in the 500-meters (1:03.75) and is part of the 4x400-meter relay team that owns the school record with a time of 3:16.73. For outdoor track and field, Baughman owns each of the top seven times in the 110-meter high hurdles (school record time of 14.18) and the top nine times in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles (school record time of 51.33). Wallace was a member of the Colonial men's tennis team from 1992 to 1995 and owns the Robert Morris career record for singles victories (58) and wins in a season (24 in 1994-95). During the 1994-95 campaign, Wallace finished with a 24-10 record in singles action. He is a native of Glassboro, N.J., and graduated from Washington Township High School. Kuziel is RMU's first veteran's choice to be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. In two seasons as a part of the Robert Morris junior college basketball team from 1964-66, Kuziel scored 920 points. He also owned the RMU junior college single-season record for shooting percentage (59 percent in 1965-66) and tied the junior college single-game record for rebounds with 25. Kuziel is a native of Pittsburgh. The six inductees were enshrined at halftime of RMU's football game against Stony Brook Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005.
