Environmental Services Technician

The Human Resources Department announces the open position of Environmental Services Technician reporting to the Facilities Specialist II and/or Facilities Specialist.

The Environmental Services Technician performs manual work in the custodial care of the University buildings and facilities, including Residence Halls.  Work involves performing varied indoor/outdoor cleaning tasks in an assigned building or building area using scrubbing and buffing machines, operating sweepers and steam cleaning machines; work also involves removing trash, washing walls, vents, screens, windows, glass doors and furniture; cleaning restrooms and replenishing supplies; cleaning drinking fountains; removing snow; lifting and moving furniture and equipment; maintaining an acceptable attendance record, punctuality and meeting deadlines; participating in training sessions and seminars; maintaining a functional awareness of typical hazards of the workplace; following established procedures for dealing with potential hazards, promptly reporting all accidents/injuries to supervisor; and performing related work as required.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Two years experience in applied trade.

  • Ability to receive work orders verbally or in writing; ability to work well with co-workers.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, lift, climb ladders or scaffold, remain standing and walking for long periods of time, ability to lift heavy objects.

  • Ability to deal with reactions to chemical substances.

  • Must work outside in all types of weather, at times in unpleasant areas, must clean spills of various substances including body fluids.

  • Overtime required as needed (vacation approval may be limited during peak activity periods), must be able to work any shift at any campus location; ability to report to work during any University closings.
