COMM3305 - Special Tpcs/Adv Tv Workshop

Fall 2011

This course is designed as an advanced, studio/field production class. Students will be engaged in the creation of a 30 min TV program from the initial brainstorming process, to the final editing and 'distribution' of the program. They will also work as a team on one final project, which will be submitted to student competitions around the country. The process of marketing and distribution will be addressed, as students will have to research festivals and screening venues for their final project. The production process will include: idea development, scripting, storyboarding, extensive pre-production, set-design, production (both in studio and field production), editing (cutting the program, incorporating motion graphics, sound design), and packaging the program for distribution. The class will prioritize and develop a content-based program that emphasizes interesting and innovative formal qualities. To contextualize and inform their project, students will study and analyze media literacy, and successful and inspirational TV programming from around the world.
