MATH6110 - Secondary Math Leadership II

Spring 2013

The purpose of this course is to support the building of learning communities within local school districts using a variety of research based tools that may include: 1. Video Cases for Mathematics Professional Development (VCMPD) which is a case-based methodology to investigate the complexities of mathematics teaching and learning that arise in real classroom situations. 2.The Mathematical Tasks Framework which is a representation of how the types of mathematical problems affect classroom instruction. 3. The Thinking Through A Lesson Protocol (TTLP) which is a tool for planning and evaluating lessons and their effectiveness. 4. The Regional K-12 Mathematics Curriculum Framework which organizes the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Mathematics to focus attention on a few "big ideas" of mathematics at each grade level. This course is intended for secondary certified mathematics teachers and will meet for five full days and five half days.
Prerequisite MATH6100.
