NURS9510 - Family Therapy

Summer 2013 Doctoral

This course provides a framework for examining families and understanding family processes. An overview of the major schools and principals in family therapy will be provided. Students will explore the meaning of family dysfunction both from personal experience and as defined by various family theories. Frameworks for understanding symptomatic behavior in families, the use of conflict, and the impact of life cycle development will be explored. Family problems, with an emphasis on cultural and social differences, commonly encountered in advanced practice psychiatric nursing will be included.
Prerequisites: NURS9010, NURS9210, and NURS9215 Co-requisites: NURS9515
