NURS6220 - Ldrship & Mgmt Sem/Practicum I

Fall 2013

This course is the first of a series of three administration courses designed to provide students with opportunities to observe, apply, analyze and discuss selected administrative and managerial skills and processes relevant to the practice of nursing administration. The seminar portion will provide content, discussion, and individual and group activities. A critical component of this course is the practicum with a designated preceptor who is employed full time in a selected site. The major focus of the practicum will be to provide both faculty guided and student initiated observational experiences, which will provide exposure to budgetary issues and other key administrative process skill sets (i.e., negotiation, conflict, management, etc.). General content for this course will include description of healthcare delivery systems, nursing's leadership role in healthcare administration, personnel management, budgetary development and control and key process issues related to managing people and groups. 3 credits
