MATH6000 - Elem Math Teacher Leadership I
Fall 2017
The purpose of this course is to support the building of learning communities within local school districs using a variety of research based tools including:
1. Developing Mathematical Ideas (DMI) a curriculum designed to help teachers think through the major ideas of K-6 mathematics beyond arithmetic and examine how children develop these ideas.
2. The Mathematical Tasks Framework which is a representation of how the types of mathematical problems affect classroom instruction.
3. The Regional K-12 Mathematics Curriculum Framework which organizes the Pennsylvania Acedemic Standards for Mathematics to focus attention on a few "big ideas" of mathematics at each grade level.
This course is intended for elementary certified teachers and will meet for five full days and five half days.
