POLS4040 - Israel: History/Politics/Socie

Spring 2018

This course is an overview of the history and politics of the State of Israel, and includes a visit to the country. The course will meet once a week during the spring semester. It will cover the major aspects of the history of Israel, as well as the major divisions within Israeli society (Jews and Arabs, Ashkenazim and Sephardim). The readings will supplement the lectures, and prepare the students for what they will encounter on their tour of the region. Logistical and cultural issues concerning the trip will be dealt with throughout the semester. An online course shell will be utilized to familiarize students with Israeli news sources.
