Victoria Della Valle: Robert Morris University Victoria Della Valle | Robert Morris University

Undergraduate

Attending RMU was a simple decision for Victoria Della Valle ‘15. The family atmosphere on Robert Morris University’s campus made her feel not only comfortable but also wanted. She felt as though she belonged at this institution, and she made the commitment to find herself here.

Della Valle earned a bachelor’s degree in communication with a concentration in public relations, and she put that degree to use right away. Around graduation time in May, she accepted a position with Stetson Convention Services, a full service general contractor and decorator in the North Side of Pittsburgh. Within her first five months, she was promoted.

“My job relates to my major immensely. The communication and leadership skills I acquired while at RMU are utilized every single day,” said Della Valle. “I am constantly working with show managers, facility personnel, union workers, and exhibitors.”

Della Valle said she fell in love with the event planning industry after producing a large-scale event for her Communication Seminar class. She and three others put their diverse skill sets together and hosted the RMU Dating Auction, where 100 percent of the proceeds benefitted the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“I knew right then and there after producing that event, that this exactly what I wanted to do with my life. I enjoyed event planning, I was good at it, and most importantly I found it very fulfilling,” she said.

Robert Morris University students enjoy a 92 percent placement rate, and Della Valle credits her personal success to the RMU Career Center. The mock interviews, positive feedback, and resources available helped prepare her for all of her post-grad interviews, she says.

Because RMU has a variety of extracurricular activities it was easy for Della Valle to get involved. During her senior year she was captain of the cheerleading team, president of the Voci Italiane club, president of the Colonial Ambassadors, secretary of the Public Relations Society, member and presenter of the 2015 Class Gift Committee, and member of Lambda Pi Eta, the communication honors society.

According to Della Valle, RMU helped her discover who she is, what skills and passions she has, and what direction she wants to go in life through the small, family-like environment, various activities available, and the learning benefits offered to all RMU students.
