  Actuarial Science

Actuarial Science Club

The Actuarial Science Club (ASC) is an active campus organization for all actuarial science students.  Each semester a number of social and academic events are held, in order to enhance the college experience.

Current Officers (2011-2012)
  • President: Christina O'Neal
  • Vice President : Kayla Newman
  • Secretary: Angela Clark
  • Treasurer: Kayla McCauslin
  • SGA Representative: Aaron Hartman

Academic Activities

ASC sponsors academic activities that help actuarial students prepare to be an actuary.  Events center around the Actuarial Career Day, job interviews, and SOA exams.  Events that have been held include:

      • Resume Workshop
      • Interview Workshop
      • Study Groups

Company information sessions are held annually.  All employers are invited to make presentations to our students.  During these sessions, students learn what actuarial science is and what actuaries do at the specific organization.  Some companies who have recently come for information sessions include: Buck Consultants, Mercer, Towers Watson, and The Hartford.

 Social Activities

Even though RMU is a small school, upperclassmen and underclassmen in the major have a hard time meeting each other.  With classes that build on one another, younger students rarely have class together with more advanced students.  Therefore, ASC hosts social events just for actuarial students so that all the students have an opportunity to interact with one another.   Events planned include:

      • Dave and Buster's Night
      • Game Nights
      • Pirates Games

In the Fall 2010 semester, ASC hosted its first RMU Bingo Night.  Since then each semester the ASC hosts this campus-event where over 50 students from different majors attend the game night, with winners walking away with mugs full of candy and RMU goodies.

Volunteer Activities

The ASC hosts volunteer and fundraising events throughout the year. More companies expect students to participate in community service events and the ASC helps students meet these expectations.  Past events include:

      • West Hills Health and Rehab Center
      • Special Olympics
