Center for Student Success

Located in the new Solution Central, the Center for Student Success offers a variety of services to students.

Our mission in Student Success is to provide undergraduate academic guidance and student services and resources in an inclusive and supportive environment that help each student persist and thrive at RMU from Orientation to Graduation.

Learn About our Approach to Student Success through Academic Coaching

Every student at RMU is assigned a Success Coach to help supplement their academic school advisor. A Success Coach serves as a go-to individual for students to stay on track in the following ways:

  • Guide students through the course registration and withdrawal process
  • Discuss considerations for changes to student schedules and academic program
  • Create awareness of University resources and services
  • Promote the use of effective decision-making skills
  • Help develop your short-term and long-term goals
  • Discuss mentoring practices
  • Connect tutoring and academic support services
  • Facilitate the process of exploring academic major options
  • Serve as a resource to overcome academic barriers
  • And more!

Student Accessibility Services (SAS)

Robert Morris University is committed to providing equal opportunity for all students with physical, learning, or psychological disabilities. RMU does not discriminate on the basis of disability in admission or access to its programs and activities. The Office of Student Accessibility Services connects qualified students with the necessary accommodations and resources so each student has access to their education, programs, and activities.

For more information and accommodation resources visit rmu.edu/sas.

For information regarding the SAS Testing Center, please visit the Test Center page at rmu.edu/sas/testing-center.

Student Employment Program / Work-Study

The Student Employment Program coordinates on-campus and off-campus work-study opportunities, as well as graduate assistantships. On average, over 400 students work on campus each year in a variety of offices and departments. Off campus, some opportunities exist for students to work with local non-profit organizations as part of the Student Employment Program.  On and off-campus work-study opportunities are posted in Talent Track.

Tutoring Services

The University Tutoring Center provides comprehensive peer tutoring focused on helping students excel in their courses. Tutoring is free and open to Robert Morris University students on a first-come, first-served basis, and one-on-one services during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Our Tutors are students who excelled in RMU courses and were recommended by their faculty.

For more information or questions regarding tutoring services email rmututor@rmu.edu.

Rising Scholars Program

The RMU Rising Scholars Program is offered to first-year underrepresented and minority students to provide the tools and resources to jump-start their first year at Robert Morris University. Students receive personalized and intentional services and access to programs to amplify their success at RMU. Students will be introduced to high-impact programs that are relevant, motivational, and culturally sensitive. Students will be provided resources and outreach that helps set them up for academic and personal success. The goal is to enhance the students’ experiences while honing in on topics that will aid in their academic persistence and personal growth.

For more information regarding the Rising Scholars Program, please email Madison Neavin at neavin@rmu.edu.

Resources

Academic Success Resources

The CSS offers a variety of tips and resources related to study skills, time management and campus support services.

Navigate is an essential tool the Center for Student Success utilizes to ensure academic success for all students. Navigate helps reduce the noise so you'll get connected to the right resources at the right time. Students; schedule with your success coach, keep note of important tasks, and view your schedule while having access to the resource that’s like your own advisor!

Faculty and staff, we recommend the use of Colonial Navigate to promote student success, persistence and retention. Navigate is a virtual advisor that gets students from orientation to graduation.

Please visit https://www.rmu.edu/why-rmu/attention/navigate to learn more about how you can use the Navigate tool to ensure academic success in your students!

Students, here are some reasons why you should use Navigate!

  • Get step-by-step guidance
  • Know when important things are coming up
  • Find the right fit
  • Learn how to get the most out of college
  • Connect to support you need - faster
  • Makes connections

Students can submit alerts for themselves by Navigate’s “Hand Raise” feature. This allows students to raise their hand, or issue alerts on themselves, either via the Navigate app or on the Navigate webpage. A student can alert the CSS if they are struggling academically with a class, inquiring about tutoring, needing resources and information for accessibility accommodations, and many more!

Once a student raises their hand, they will receive outreach that provides the appropriate resources and support for their submitted reason. If appropriate, the case manager will connect the student with their Success Coach to triage a follow up and/or a general advising meeting for them to create a plan for academic success!

Check out how to raise your hand here!

Download the Navigate app: Navigate has a free mobile app that will help you thrive at Robert Morris University. Think of it like a personal advisor in your pocket! This app allows you to tell academic support services that you need assistance with your academic success! Navigate has made staying on top of the things you need to do and making the important decisions of college easier. It’s the ultimate guide to build a path to graduation - and stay on that path! Follow the steps below to get started!

  1. Go to Google Play or the Apple App Store
  2. Search "Navigate" to install app
  3. Once installed, search for "Robert Morris University"
  4. Enter your RMU username and password to log in — the same username and password used to log into your student email account.
