Colonials Announce 2014-15 Slate
The third-annual Three Rivers Classic, an outdoor contest against Bowling Green as part of the Toledo Walleye Winterfest, and a packed slate of Atlantic Hockey contests make up the majority of the 2014-15 Robert Morris University men’s hockey schedule.
The Colonials open their 11th season of Division I hockey at home when they kick off the regular season Friday, Oct. 10 with a7:05 p.m. faceoff against Lake Superior State at 84 Lumber Arena in the first game of a two-game series against the Lakers.
Following the season-opening series against the Lakers, RMU will then play its first AHA contests against Niagara; hosting the Purple Eagles on Friday, Oct. 17 before traveling north for the second game of the home-and-home series the following evening.
After a weekend series on the road against Army, the Colonials return home for a four-game home stand that includes a pair of two-game series against RIT beginning on Friday, Oct. 31 and Air Force on Friday, Nov. 14.
RMU rounds out the month of November with a two-game road trip to take on AIC on Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23.
The month of December will keep the Colonials in their home state with a slate that includes two home games against Sacred Heart starting on Friday, Dec. 5, a trip north to face in-state rival Mercyhurst for a pair of games beginning on Friday, Dec. 12, and culminating with the third-annual Three Rivers Classic on Monday, Dec. 29 and Tuesday, Dec. 30.
This year’s field for the Three Rivers Classic includes RMU along with Penn State, Colgate, and Western Michigan. The Colonials will take on the Nittany Lions for the third-consecutive year in the semifinals on Monday with the winner meeting the victor of Colgate and Western Michigan the following evening in the championship contest. Times and ticket information for both dates will be released on a later date.
RMU kicks off the New Year with the program’s first outdoor contest on Saturday, Jan. 3 when the Colonials will play Bowling Green at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio during the Toledo Walleye Winterfest. The two teams will meet again the following day when the Falcons will make the trip to the Lumber Yard to close out the non-conference schedule for RMU.
The game against Bowling Green is the first of a season-long five-game home stand for the Colonials that also includes a pair of two-game series against Bentley starting on Friday, Jan. 9 and against AIC on Friday, Jan. 16.
Coming off of the season-long five-game home stand, RMU will embark on a season-long four-game road trip with two-game series against Holy Cross starting on Friday, Jan. 23 and a two-game series against Air Force on Friday, Jan. 30.
The Colonials will host Canisius in a rematch of the AHA Championship on Friday, Feb. 6 for the first of two games against the Golden Griffins.
The next three games will see RMU on the road for two at RIT starting on Friday, Feb. 20 and then a single game against Niagara on Friday, Feb. 27. The regular season comes to an end on Saturday, Feb. 28 with RMU hosting Niagara before the start of the 2015 Atlantic Hockey Playoffs.
