1.0 Policy
1.1 It is the policy of Robert Morris University to provide a leave of absence when operational circumstances permit employees to be away from the workplace for health, personal, educational, military, bereavement, family, and jury duty reasons.
2.0 Scope
2.1 This policy applies to full-time and regular part-time employees, where identified.
3.0 Procedure
3.1 Bereavement Leave (full-time and regular part-time employees)
3.1.1 Employees may be granted up to five days off from work with pay in the event of the death of a spouse, child, or parent.
3.1.2 Employees may be granted up to three days off from work with pay in the event of the death of a grandparent, grandchild, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, or daughter-in-law.
3.1.3 Employees may be granted up to one day off from work with pay in the event of the death of a relative not a member of the immediate family as defined by this policy.
3.1.4 Additional time off without pay or with time charged to absent/emergency days, compensatory time where eligible, or vacation time may be taken when approved by the department manager.
3.1.5 In the spirit of cooperation, colleagues of employees on bereavement leave are expected to offer their services to the department manager as he/she arranges to cover the responsibilities of the employee who is on bereavement leave.
3.1.6 The University may request the employee to provide verification of death.
