Business Computer and Information Technology Teacher Certification

The Business, Computer, and Information Technology Teacher Education program prepares students for a rewarding career teaching business, information technology and computer education subjects to elementary, middle school, and high school students. It is designed to help students acquire competencies and skills in liberal arts, business foundations, and professional teaching studies.

This comprehensive K-12 certificate prepares students to teach technology, programming, accounting, entrepreneurship, business law, general business, software applications, business communications, finance, marketing and management. Students study business and computer subjects along with education courses that will help them attain the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful business educators in the K-12 classrooms. They also participate in several field experiences, concluding in the professional student teaching semester, where candidates teach within the local public schools with a certified supervising teacher, further developing and applying their content and teaching skills toward Pennsylvania teacher certification.

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to demonstrate:
  • Competency in a variety of  business and computer information technology subjects.
  • Effective teaching skills in a K-12 setting.
  • The ability to work with all students to foster learning.
  • Appropriate strategies leading to effective teaching and learning.
  • Competency in designing business and computer instruction.

The School of Education and Social Sciences faculty is comprised of caring individuals who accept the responsibility for educating the "whole" student at RMU. Consequently, our faculty members are specialists in their areas of expertise who effectively implement sound instructional practices when teaching and just as importantly, they engage students in a variety of purposeful enrichment activities outside the classroom setting. One hundred percent of SESS full-time faculty hold a doctorate degree in their field and have strong backgrounds as teachers, researchers, counselors, psychologists, principals, superintendents, and authors. Students learn from them first-hand what it takes to succeed.

Scholarships are available based upon academic achievement. 

For freshmen, high school grade point average and ACT/SAT scores are used. For transfer students, the cumulative grade point average of all college courses is used. Scholarships range from $1000 per year up to full tuition. (To calculate your scholarship eligibility, click here.)
