-- Receiving this year's Distinguished Achievement Awards were Dennis Jochmann, director of IT customer service, and Arif Sirinterlikci, interim head of the Department of Engineering and director of Engineering Laboratories. Jochmann was cited for, among other things, his role as a mentor to RMU's student IT workers, and Sirinterlikci praised for the connections he has built between RMU and local communities through education outreach programs.

PERSONAL MENTION

-- Rex Crawley, professor of communication and assistant dean of the School of Communications and Information Systems, will be honored Sunday by Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in Pittsburgh's Larimer section. Crawley will be among the community leaders feted at the landmark church's annual Recognition Celebration. Crawley recently was named RMU's first endowed chair of the university's second endowed research center, the RMU Research Center on Black Male Educational Student Success, made possible by The Heinz Endowments.

-- La Mia Strada (My Road), the latest documentary by Michael DiLauro, director of the Academic Media Center, will premiere in Rome at the Palestrina Move Club Film Festival on Thursday Oct. 4. La Mia Strada offers a personal perspective on ethnicity and culture as it links ancient Italian traditions and contemporary Italian culture with its Italian American counterpart. An indelible bond unites the past and the future despite being divided by an ocean. The film willpremiere at Robert Morris University on Thursday Jan. 31, 2013.

-- The next installment of the CEO Lecture Series takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, featuring Kim Tillotson Fleming, chairwoman and CEO of Hefron-Tillotson, Inc., in Massey Theater. The entire RMU community is welcome to attend, but please RSVP to instadvancement@rmu.edu

-- On Oct. 4 the School of Business will hold the Second Annual Somma Integrity First Intersection Navigating the Challenges for all  undergraduate business students. The event will begin with a networking dinner followed by an Ethics Overview presented by Jodi Potter, a group ethics case exercise, recognition of our 2012 Integrity First Scholarship recipients and concludes with remarks by alumnus Rande Somma and his wife Georgia Somma, who fund the scholarship. The event takes place at 5 p.m. in the Sewall Center.
