-- The Affordable Care Act will cost Democrats votes in this year's elections, Gov. Tom Corbett faces a bumpy road to re-election, and the harsh winter notwithstanding most Americans recognize that global warming is taking place -- or so say respondents in the latest round of polling by the Robert Morris University Polling Institute Powered by Trib Total Media. Look for more results next week.

-- Five senior RMU nursing students won first place recently in the NCLEX Challenge Competition held at the Penn State New Kensington Campus. The challenge is based on the College Bowl program in which five-member teams test their knowledge on questions based on the nursing licensing examination. The teams competed by answering NCLEX-style questions. The RMU team was: Myke Ross, Jessica Capozzi, Brandon Locke, Rayvan Bellany, and Brendon Ignatz.

-- Junior communications student Kyle Gorcey won second place in the 2014 Student Keystone Press Awards for his photograph "RMU trounces Tigers in season opener." Gorcey and other winners will be honored April 2 in Hershey. The photograph appears below.

PERSONAL MENTION

-- The Board of Directors of the Pittsburgh chapter of the American Marketing Association has named Steve Clinton, associate professor of marketing, its volunteer of the month. Clinton is the head of the Department of Marketing. He was recognized for his integral role on the chapter's Academic Outreach Committee and for securing RMU's support for the 2014 College Marketing Plan Competition.

-- Nigel Hearne, vice president of Chevron North America, will speak at 4 p.m., March 13, in the International Suite of Sewall Center as part of the CEO Lecture Series, sponsored jointly by the School of Business and Pittsburgh Quarterly Magazine. RSVP to instadvancement@rmu.edu.

-- The Pittsburgh Musical Theater, in association with Robert Morris University, will be presenting Les Miserables at the Byham Theater from March 27 through April 6. Les Miserables is the powerful tale of Jean ValJean and his life-long struggle for redemption. The show is directed by Coordinator of RMU Colonial Theatre Ken Gargaro and choreographed by Colleen Petrucci with musical direction by Brent Alexander. Ticket prices start at $12.25 with half price tickets for any student.
