A great majority of engineers and technical professionals spend a significant portion of their careers managing technical projects and people. You can expect excellent career enhancement opportunities as a result of the managerial and technical skills you'll obtain in this program. 

If you're interested in a career change, the M.S. in Engineering Management degree can provide a distinct advantage. Many industries and government organizations seek individuals with advanced technical educations for positions of increased responsibility such as project leaders, chief engineers, engineering supervisors, directors of engineering, project managers, production managers and systems managers.

Graduates of the program typically add $5,000 to $15,000 to their annual salary. Starting salaries range from $50,000 to $75,000 or more, depending on the individual's current position in the industry and previous experience.
The M.S. in Engineering Management degree program is offered in both thesis and non-thesis formats. You may select the format you wish to pursue based on your interests after you enroll in the program. A total of 30 credit hours is required to complete either the thesis or non-thesis format.

Required Courses - 9 credits:
Engineering Cost Estimation and Financial Analysis 
Engineering Systems Analysis and Design

Directed Electives - 15 credits:
6-9 credits Engineering courses 
6-9 credits Non-engineering courses

Thesis - 6 credits:
Requires a minimum of six credits of applied research in an appropriate area of interest. A faculty advisor will assist you in defining a thesis topic. A defense before a faculty committee is required. The committee may include members of industry if appropriate and if approved by the department head.

Non-Thesis Option
Required Courses - 9 credits:

9-15 credits Engineering courses

Graduates students in engineering also have the opportunity to work the SEMS Research and Outreach Center, collaborating with local industry and working with K-12 schools to promote careers in engineering.

The results show: a 96% job placement rate for our graduates. We emphasize a global curriculum and have a diverse student and faculty body. We make sure our students are engaged citizens of the globe and experienced professionals in sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
RMU graduate tuition rates are competitively set within the western Pennsylvania region. Also, many of our students find that their employers are willing to help pay for all or a portion of the cost of attendance, so we have procedures for third-party and delayed billing to meet the requirements of your human resources department. In addition, graduate students are eligible for student loans, and a there are a few graduate assistant positions available each year.
