INFS1030 - Intro Health Care Informatics

INFS1030 is an introduction to information technology (IT) and to how this technology is applied to the delivery of health care and the practice of nursing. Students develop an understanding of the processes for identifying health care system needs and solving biomedical problems and for designing and implementing a system that meets requirements for patient care, administration, medical quality assurance, unique identification of patients and medications, and conformance to regulatory, credentialing and ethical guidelines. This course covers assesing clinical system suitability and performance as a part of the ongoing system development cycle. Students learn to examine, analyze, and compare information from alternative sources in order to evaluate validity, accruacy, authority, timeliness, and point of view or bias. 3 credits
