Department of English

The Department of English provides students a liberal arts education with a strong professional focus. The English curriculum embraces the university’s core value of academic excellence by offering small classes with personal attention from professors who are published and award-winning scholars. Courses focus on literature, language, rhetoric, philosophy, and professional and creative writing.

The department is committed to creating a vibrant and supportive scholarly community that welcomes every student and encourages each one to reach and to surpass his or her educational and personal goals. Internships are included in every concentration of the major, and faculty members assist students in charting pathways to professional careers through research, publishing, and editing opportunities on campus, so that students have solid resumes prior to graduation.
