Instructional Resource Center

Collection of materials that primarily supports the curricula of Robert Morris University’s Department of Education.

The IRC collection is composed of:

  • Elementary and secondary school textbooks
  • Curriculum guides
  • Juvenile literature including children’s classics, picture books, big books, easy books, ABC and number books
  • Award winning books such as the Caldecott, Newberry and Coretta Scott King are collected extensively  

Administration of the Collection

With regard to the elementary and secondary education materials housed in the Curriculum Library, the Head of Acquisitions and the Education liaison(s) work with the Head of the Education Department in developing this collection.  In addition to materials purchased for this collection, the Library accepts donations from faculty and publishers.   

Materials in the IRC are de/accessioned at the discretion of the Head of Acquisitions in consultation with the Head of the Education Department.

Popular Reading 

This is a rotating set of new fiction and non-fiction titles, biographies, and best-selling books. It is a subset of the Library’s General Collection. 

Collection provides leisure and popular reading titles that may not be permanent additions to the General Collection. Books will either be added to the General Collection or de-accessioned at least twice a year to maintain currency.

Pedagogy Collection

Collection established in collaboration with the Center for Innovative Teaching and Directed Engaged Learning (CITADEL) and located on the upper level of the Library, directly in front of the entrance to the CITADEL. The purpose of this specific collection is to support teaching faculty in their pursuit of excellence in teaching, broaden their knowledge about current and evolving pedagogical trends, and engage them with written materials addressing innovative teaching methods at RMU.
