  • RMU is hosting its annual Winter Blood Drive in partnership with Vitalant (formerly Central Blood Bank) on Wednesday, January 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the John Jay Gym. Your participation is needed to help make the drive a success. Walk-ins are welcome, but if you want to make an appointment please email Donna Anderson at andersond@rmu.edu your cell phone number (required for online registration) and your preferred time. The entire donation process should take no more than one hour. Your participation will help to save lives and you will be modeling active community involvement for our students. Thank you ahead of time for your participation.

  • RMU is offering employees Green Zone Ally Training, an 90-minute session where you'll learn more about veteran and military families at Robert Morris. The training module will teach you about military culture, transition strengths and challenges for veterans and military members, and ways to understand and assist veterans in your department. Anyone interested should RSVP by emailing David Munn at munn@rmu.edu. Available sessions are Tuesday, Feb. 12 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 2 - 3:30 p.m. in the Benjamin Rush Classroom.

Personal Mention

  • Congratulations to the 2017-18 winners of the President's Distinguished Faculty Achievement Awards:

    • In scholarship: Sang Ho Shim, assistant professor of industrial and mechanical engineering. Shim's research output in 2017-18 includes seven scholarly articles and three major conference research papers cited by the recommendations committee as "exceptional." His research is described as focused and well-grounded in his field, but also leading to innovation and further investigation.

    • In teaching: Greg Krivacek, assistant professor of accounting. His nominators noted that he has taught both beginning and advanced courses in accountancy, auditing, and taxation and has teaching ratings that are "off the charts." His commitment to the whole student experience is proven by his recognition by RMU Student Government as the winner of their "Engagement with Students" award.

    • In service: Heather Elfen, assistant professor of mathematics. She has been a leader in School outreach efforts, making numerous presentations to professional and prospective student groups. She serves on departmental, school, and university committees, advises the Math Club, volunteers with the WLMP, and recently led a team that secured a grant from the American Association of University Women to support women students in Actuarial Science and Applied Math.

  • The Bayer Center for Nonprofit Management is offering free professional development classes to RMU faculty and staff this spring at the RMU downtown location. These classes are being offered to RMU employee free of charge, with a few exceptions.

    • Strategies for Resilience: Innovation through Play and Exploration - $35 to cover direct expenses for cabin rental and lunch

RMU BASKETBALL COACHES SHOW PRESENTED BY PEOPLES NATURAL GAS featuring Robert Morris head coach Andy Toole on Wednesday, January 23 at The Yard Gastropub (670 Chauvet Drive/Pointe @ North Fayette) at 7 pm. All fans are welcome to attend, and food/drinks are on us. Co-hosting the show once again is the RMU Hall of Fame Voice of the Colonials Chris Shovlin. It will continue to air live each Monday at 7 pm through March 11 on the radio home for RMU Hoops, 970 AM ESPN Pittsburgh as well as on the iHeart Radio mobile app. 

RMU HOCKEY COACHES SHOW PRESENTED BY UMPC CENTER FOR SPORTS MEDICINE featuring Colonial head man Derek Schooley next Tuesday Jan. 22 live from All-Star Sports Bar and Grill (across from the Mall at Robinson) at 7 pm. Come out and get the inside scoop on Robert Morris Hockey from the coach as well as radio announcers Mike Prisuta and Tim Benz. The show airs live each Tuesday at 7 pm through March 12 on the radio home for RMU Hockey, 970 AM ESPN Pittsburgh as well as on the iHeart Radio mobile app. All fans are welcome to attend!
