For Veterans - New Changes to Veteran Education Benefits
Starting Aug. 1, 2018, changes to the Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2017, also known as the “Forever G.I. Bill,” officially go into effect.
Originally, under the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill, if a veteran were to take a CLEP exam, an entire month of entitlement benefits would be charged. With the Forever G.I. Bill, entitlement charges will be prorated so only the actual amount of the exam and administration fee will be billed.
The student gets up to $2000 for test fees. $2000 = 1 month of entitlement. Any fee less than $2000 is prorated.
EXAMPLE: 1 CLEP is $100. That test would use 1/20th of a month's entitlement= 1.5 days.
To learn more about the Forever G.I. bill, visit U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs Education and Training page.
