At RMU, we believe anyone can be entrepreneurial, whether you want to own your own business or work for a big bank or accounting firm, whether you want to be an engineer, a nurse, or a teacher -- you name it. That’s why RMU offers the Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, which is open all undergraduate students, regardless of major, and prepares them to be innovators either as business owners or entrepreneurial employees.

The Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation is a 12-credit, interdisciplinary program that students can customize based on their own field of study and entrepreneurial ambitions. All courses count toward RMU graduation requirements, so students who enroll in the certificate program can graduate on time. Students who complete the certificate program will graduate with an actionable business plan for a start-up venture or an entrepreneurial project they can take to their employer to implement.

Special Topics in Innovation or The Psychology of Selling – In Special Topics in Innovation, students learn the various techniques and approaches to developing new products, services, or business models. Students learn cross-disciplinary innovation practices such as human-centered design, futurism, and social innovation. The Psychology of Selling introduces students to the principals of professional sales, and teaches them the relationship between marketing, promotions, and sales. Student’s Choice or Three-Credit Business Internship – Students can choose an advanced level course in their own school that will best enhance their proficiency in developing and launching a start-up or entrepreneurial venture in their own field of study. Or, they can select an internship with an employer who will allow them to engage in an entrepreneurial project,

Business Innovation Lab – This is the culmination of the Entrepreneurship Certificate program, and it allows students to apply what they have learned to develop an actionable business plan, either for a start-up venture or for implementation by an existing organization. Students use real market data and draw on the Pittsburgh region’s entrepreneurial assets to develop a plan that can launch their careers.
