“The teaching certification program aligns so well with the master’s program that I only had to take a few additional classes to obtain my master’s degree. It seemed almost foolish not to do it.”

Courtney King Rabi spent a few years as an inside sales rep when she first got out of college in 2006, but although it was a good job with a big-name company, her heart kept pulling her toward teaching. She eventually applied to RMU, and attended class in the evenings after work. It wasn’t easy juggling a full-time job and being a college student again, but she graduated two-and-a-half years later with a teaching certification in secondary English and a master’s degree in instructional leadership.

One academic highlight for Courtney was when a professor encouraged her to submit her master’s thesis to a conference in Texas; as a result, she was asked to speak at the event. That experience, as well as student teaching at North Allegheny Senior High School, helped prepare her for a full-time position at South Fayette High School. She now teaches theater, stage production, English, and public speaking, and is helping to put together a student-written play and talent showcase for the high school’s theater.
