WELL1030 - First Aid/Cpr
Summer 2024
This course is designed to prepare the student to perform basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), use an automatic external defibrillator (AED), and provide first aid in a variety of settings and situations. Basic anatomy and physiology information is provided. The course uses the American Heart Association Heartsaver course to certify the participants in CPR, AED, and First Aid. An additional $25.00 fee will be collected to pay for supplies, certification cards and resources.

This course is being offered as an introduction into the science of well-being (flourishing, thriving, and positivity). Students will explore the evidence of positive psychology and explore their own approaches to mindfulness, strengths, resiliency, a growth mindset, positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, achievement and vitality. The course is intended to provide students with a foundation for a life-time journey focusing on happiness, well-being and applying practices to address inevitable challenges.

Eating for life is an instructional course focused on concepts of healthy eating and how diet impacts overall health. Designed for any concerned with weight control or eating for health, this course covers "what to eat", "how to eat", and "activity balance". Students learn greater appreciation for food, while controlling portions, cutting between meal snacks, and preventing stressful eating.

This unique sport combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis, and can be played in a singles or doubles format. This course will build upon and expand the skills and strategies that were introduced in Wellness & Resilience in College and Beyond, Part I. In this course, students will learn and practice a variety of resilience-building skills and habits (e.g., cognitive restructuring, interpersonal effectiveness skills, healthy therapeutic lifestyle habits) and study the psychology behind why they?re effective.
